Do you think social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, are changing our lifestyle and making us want/to buy more?

Generally, we all have accounts on different social media platforms like facebook, instagram, twitter etc. and we do follow various influencers, celebrities, politicians, companies. Right?

We can see these influencers or celebrities promoting different brands, services etc. through their social handle. While following them we do not understand (or even after knowing the truth) that these people/companies often promote different products like clothing, accessories, beauty products, fitness products etc. for money. While they get paid for such promotions, we get influenced and end up buying such promoted products.

Now a days, people spend a lot of money to increase and maintain their lifestyle. This lifestyle is often get influenced by celebrities, companies or influencers through social media. Even sometimes, neighbors, friends/colleagues or people around us builds up this pressure. Also, young generation, is soft target for such promotions as young people can easily get impressed. Many youngsters want to look good, want to follow fashion trends like celebrities on Instagram or Facebook or Tiktok.

Lifestyle inflation increasing rapidly. And all this making people to spend more to keep the lifestyle and to buy products or services. But for buying all these services or products, one’s monthly income or salary may not be sufficient, hence credit card is used mostly by people as it is easy replacement of quick money or cash

Swiping a credit card is the easiest way to buy anything, it’s easy money. You don’t feel the pain, but  remember every time you buy a new gadget or iPhone or for new fashion cloth, without keeping money in an emergency fund, you are pursuing a wrong dream. It’s all fake world and common people need to pay a (high) price for staying in such world. Every time you are swiping your credit card for lavish or luxuries or unnecessary purchases, even after understanding interest is getting added with each such purchase, you are putting your financial future at risk. Even though credit cards are convenient option, people make wrong use of it by swiping it for buying expensive items. This habit of using credit cards wrongly, could make their future worse as a big part of their income will go towards the repayment of debt including its high interest.

Sometime, people including youths, want to get famous, need more followers for themselves. Hence, they try to buy/rent clothes, beauty products, new phones or gadgets for looking good and make videos or to post pictures. Social media platforms are contributing to change in our lifestyle and making us want to purchase more. When we do not have enough money available, we use credit cards. Credit cards also offer many perks in order to push customers to transact more. It’s like a vicious cycle and once we get stuck and burdened with debt, the way out is hard.

It’s better to understand our financial constraints, not to get influenced by such platforms, save and invest more for a better and secure financial future.
