‘Gifting shares to wife- Creating A New Bond‘ by  Mr. Kamlesh Adwani

It has been 2 years of my marriage and in these 2 years I have gifted ‘Titan Company Shares’ to my wife on her name.

Now you will ask- Shares as a gift? that’s too to a woman? Sounds quite weird, right?

Let me explain my story to you. It all started in April 2018 before one week of my marriage. I asked my would-be wife what gift she want from me for our marriage, first, she said she do not want anything. When I insisted further, I received an unexpected and surprising answer- she asked me to gift ‘Titan Company Shares’ in her name.

Consequently, two days before marriage date, I purchased Titan Shares through her demat account. Time she was not aware about this, but after 2 days of our marriage I informed her, and she was really happy with the gift.

Finally, out of curiosity I enquired, why she asked for such an odd gift of Shares? Yes..! It’s an odd gift because generally wives/ladies asks for shopping, new cloths, jewelry etc. as gifts.

Her reply was– she has seen her father from her childhood holding Titan Shares. Her father had started purchasing this company shares regularly from its IPO. She also noticed that whenever they visited Titan Showroom, they were given extra discount for any purchases done under the Shareholder category. Somehow, this motivated her and later, her father explained the importance of buying good quality shares and holding them for long.

After this conversation, I decided to buy ‘Titan Shares’ on various occasions like Hindu New Year (Sindhi New Year Cheti Chand ), Akshiya Trithya, Dhanteras including our Marriage Anniversary as a gift to her.

I am glad that my wife is quite aware about many investment options and its importance. She also understands asset allocation, diversification and different type of investment options like equity, PPF, FD, NSC, gold, property etc. Even though she is not aware about few aspects of personal finance nothing stops her from learning more. She regularly discusses  about money matters with me.

If you ask about my investment journey, then I started investing from 2014 in the stock market and in mutual funds from year 2007. Investments in stock market was not new to me, but after marriage, when my wife asked for this unique gift and showed interest in savings and investments, encouraged me to learn more about investing in stocks.

Or I can say, this was an extra push from my wife which build my confidence. My wife does not check prices of Titan Shares often or do not track its price movements. Rather she is treating these shares like her jewelry in her Demat account. Even my in-laws have never bothered about the price fall/up till date. From my overall experience of these 2 years and after looking at my wife I feel women are more knowledgeable than men in investments and are high-risk takers.
