Football is one of the most popular sports today. There are football teams from almost 200 countries; this is how popular this game is. The most anticipated championship is, of course, the World Cup. The non-profit organization, FIFA organize this world cup that takes place every four years. FIFA stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association. This is an organization that invests primarily in the improvement of the game and letting all the teams from the world get better at this game. Also provides them with opportunities to make themselves better.
FIFA organizes numerous events between two world cups to gather the money to finance the next world cup. Throughout the four-year period, the organization earns through the following means; most of the revenue comes from the revenue contracts, board licensing and investment income are two other sources through which the association earns money. Another major source of income for FIFA is television rights. The sports channels offer high amounts of money to the association to hand them the television rights of their events. The next source of income for FIFA is the marketing rights, licensing rights, and even ticketing rights.
Organizing the FIFA world cup is a very risk-free event that is held by the association, and this event alone provides huge profits which are then invested in the game by the association. The world cup alone generates almost a revenue of $5.6 billion. The association has designed its very own sponsorship model. This model comprises of three levels, and these three levels include; FIFA Partners, FIFA World Cup Partners, and the third level is the National Supporters.
FIFA Partners: this level sponsors help the association with the development of the FIFA brand. Also, these sponsors are responsible for corporate and social engagement.
FIFA World Cup Sponsors: these sponsors work to market the world cup held by FIFA and also help in the promotion of this particular event.
National Supporters: the country in which the world cup takes place, these sponsors are based in that very country. They are responsible for the promotion of the event in the country that is hosting the event.
Some changes are expected to be made to the business model and the sponsorship model of FIFA. The national supporter level is expected to change. This level will be changed to the regional level with up to 20 companies from five different regions. These five regions include; North America, Africa, Asia, South America, and Europe. This change was implemented this year, and it even allowed companies to purchase the regional level models.
FIFA is one of the biggest organizations in the world has a business model that seems very profitable, but even it has some flaws.
In whichever country the world cup takes place, it positively impacts the economy of that country. The 21st FIFA world cup was held this year in Russia and France named the title to itself by defeating Croatia by a score of 4-2.
